THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY

Well yesterday was another evening with the parental unit. We did another swim at the gym. Hey you gotta stick to what works. My dad is already getting better. I didn't have my watch and they didn't have a swim clock (that's a whole different issue) so the total time from going in to leaving the gym was 30 minutes. Which is about the same amount of time we spent the last time. But there were a few differences.

This time I had him a more structured workout. It wasn't even closed to real program but it was a big step of from the first session (a bunch of 25's). We started with a 100 warm up getting nice a loose. Then we did a couple of 50's. Then I had him tryout the paddles to work on his stroke. Do you remember your first time with paddles, yeah fun [sarcasm]. So it was 2 sets of 50 with those. Then I notice that he had a few mini-sprint bursts in his stroke and was getting tired too quickly so we did a 100 with him following me at the pace I set. Nice and easy and he came out of it feeling good and just a tad winded (like your supposed to). Guess what...more 50's (5 of them to be exact)! We wrapped things up with a 50 breast stroke warm down. Now the Grand Total = 700 Yards! Yay Dad!

Lets do the math. More yards + same amount of time = Progress. Both times at the gym the time are off. So last Tues it calculated to 6 minute 100's (please!) of coarse that is factoring in changing time in the lockers. This time, with the added yardage the numbers work out to 4 minute 100's. Dad when you read this I just wanted to say two things: 1) I'm proud and 2) PACE YOURSELF!

Way to go, guys, on your swimming workout. It's always nice to see progress in your training. And being able to get more yards in less time: even more awesome.

Thanks for the note about the ankle. It's so frustrating. And it didn't even happen for a practical, training-related reason. I rested for the remainder of yesterday, but will give it a test ride today. Otherwise, I might swim too!

I enjoyed your blog post about your first triathlon. Belated congrats on that! I hope I can pull through just as well. Good luck this season and train well. (And thanks for stopping by my blog too!)
