FLATS Happen!!!

Today was a course PreView of Bonelli Park in San Dimas (near Raging Waters). This is going to be a great event. Such beautiful scenery and the smell of pine and eucaliptis is a pleasant change from dank sweat towels at the gym. Also, I realized that I need to get out more. The treadmill dependency is killing me. My friend (who ran and biked with me in prep for this being his first) and I "ran" (used loosy since I walked a lot of the way) in the park and biked the actual course that's posted on their site. We swim in the lake, bike around the lake, and run by the lake. The surrounding serenty is going to make for a great day. I told myself that this time around I'm not going to have that exaughsted deaf experience (you know, when you're so tired that you see everyone cheering but its like someone turned the mute button on on your life).

The run was O.K. Like I said, a lot of walking. This is how the bike course looks:

I especially like that climb to a drop and then have to climb back out...fun...not. Wait, stay positive, there are a couple of areas that are short climbs that bend so you can't see if they end. I'm sure that a few people will sit up, so I can take advantage. It's probably not going to do much in the long run (literally, 5K is a long run to me) but it should give a boost of confidence to pass someone on a hill or two.

Adam and I ran first and scoped out the bike last so we wouldn't have to break down the bikes in the middle of our workout. It was a great day until...a flat. 7 miles into an 8 mile course. So I had to walk my bike back to the car. Bummer. That reminds me I need new rims and tires. Anyone out there want to part or sponsor me just send me an email, my blazing 14:30 per mile run should make the papers and get some press.

We ended the workout at In-N-Out, for those in Southern California you know what this means. hmmmmm. You might say, what about your nutrition and I'll say "but its In-N-Out?! what am I supposed to do?" After a nice workout, outside of the gym I came home and watched a DVD. I'm kind of a movie freak. Nothing beats kicking back and watching Shawshank Redemption 15 times. And that is NOT an arbitrary make up number, I have catelog software that tracks how many times I watch my DVDs. But the movie stuff is for another blog. Except that for Christmas, my parents got me the Triathlon DVD What Ever it Takes. Great watch!!! If anyone has some tips on how to take on Bonelli Park, just let me know. Because my "A" Race this year is The BOD (Bonelli Olympic Distance) in Sept. Yeah, yeah more base I know.

Bonelli is a great location... one of my favorite places to run.

I guess the hills of the Cuyahoga River might not be that bad, huh?

Don't sweat the walking Tri-Guru in training. Take a systematic approach to it though. That way you can work on improving every run. My bud Darrell runs in Bonelli, but other than that, it looks wickedly cool. Is the bike trail or road? That Oly is going to be a big challenge, yours and mine, and its gonna be so much fun!!

looks like a great course.

everytime i get a flat, I think of it as practice. I got lots of practice in november until i got slime liners put in and put an end to that!

you'll have fun at the Bonelli park race. It was the first triathlon I ever did...and it was just about a year ago. Good luck!
